Hurricane Ida Response

* Updated 8/28/2021 at 9:32am

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Ida is predicted to make landfall along the Louisiana coast late Sunday, bringing significant rainfall accumulations through Monday.

At a Glance:

  • Hurricane Ida is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico, having recently been updated from a Tropical Storm to a Category 1 Hurricane.

  • Ida is forecast to grow into a major hurricane over the weekend, potentially reaching a Category 4.

  • Interests along the northern and western U.S. Gulf Coast should monitor this system closely.

FEMA Guidelines:

FEMA recommends consulting a professional engineer on whether or not the roof can withstand the expected wind loads, provide uplift resistance, and prevent water intrusion. This includes the different features that define the roof, including slope, structure, covering, and attachments, such as:

  • Roof-to-Wall Connections

  • Roof Structure

  • Roof Decking/Sealant

  • Roof Covering

  • Roof Flashing

  • Vents
