Meet the Team - Brandee Hicks

Brandee Hicks

HR Department

Q: Where have you studied so far, and what future education will you pursue?

Brandee: I have been taking classes at Rowan Cabarrus Community College for the past three years. I’m working towards a business administration degree, with a focus in HR.

Q: What encouraged you to begin a career in the roofing industry?

Brandee: I moved to North Carolina in February 2016, and applied with a staffing agency for a variety of positions in the area. One of the first positions they asked me to interview for was with a commercial roofing company, TeamCraft. To be completely honest, I was not sure that was the right thing for me. I knew I had no roofing, or even construction, experience. I decided to take the interview anyways, and when I met the team I realized it was going to be a good place for me. They offered to do whatever training I needed to get up to speed on roofing and my specific job tasks. In April of 2016 I officially accepted the job offer! I started my time at TeamCraft as an assistant to the former Head of HR, and was later promoted to HR Specialist.

Q: What is the best part about working in Human Resources at TeamCraft?

A: HR is never boring! Every day I have new problems to solve, and constantly have to think about what the best way to help our people in the field is. I enjoy my interactions with our field employees, and have so much respect for what they do every day on the roof. Our team in the office is also fantastic; overall, it makes for a great work environment!

Q: Do you have any memories about your time at TeamCraft you would like to share?

A: The owners of TeamCraft, Bob and Donna, bought me a TV as a housewarming gift a few years back. One of the things I love about the company is how thoughtful the owners are. I know they take a real interest in me and my family, and that’s not something you see a lot of these days.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: A lot of my free time is spent studying as I finish my business administration degree, but outside of that I enjoy reading. My favorite author is John Grisham, and two of my favorite books are The Giver and The Celestine Prophecy. I also enjoy hiking, and am looking forward to going to Chimney Rock sometime soon! Occasionally I attend concerts; most recently, I went to Brooks and Dunn for my 40th! It was really a great experience since that was the band that first got me into country music. I am also a single mother of two wonderful boys; they are each so different, and uniquely special. Spending time with them is always a priority for me.

Q: What trainings have you done, and what are you excited to learn?

A: I started from scratch, and my knowledge base has come a long way! When I began with TeamCraft I hadn’t had much experience with email, and they taught me how to get comfortable utilizing the system. From there I was trained in all of the Microsoft products, our HR Information System (Kronos), EEO and I-9 training, HR seminars and much more. I am looking forward to continuing to get more out of Kronos! The system has a lot of potential, and I am excited to see our data become more useful to the rest of the company.
